The exceptional Mingus Dynasty Quintet is one of the repertory bands whose mission is to carry on the works of Charles Mingus, a virtuoso bass player, accomplished pianist, renowned bandleader, brilliant composer, longtime New York City resident and uncompromising force of nature. He played and recorded with the leading musicians of the 50s, including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Art Tatum and Duke Ellington. One of the few bassists to do so, Mingus became a leader of musicians and was at the forefront of the avant-garde. His sound is rhythmic, dynamic, totally unconventional and utterly unmistakable.
